Former Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala’s much-awaited debut for AmaZulu could be delayed after the midfielder picked up a muscle injury during training.

Tshabalala joined Usuthu last month after being on the sidelines for almost a year without a club.

‘Shabba’, who played 209 matches for Amakhosi and has 90 Bafana Bafana caps to his name, was unveiled by the Durban-based outfit as a marquee signing ahead of the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season.

AmaZulu spokesperson Brilliant Mkhathini says the 36-year-old faces a late fitness test ahead of their DStv Premiership match against Black Leopards on Wednesday night.

“It’s not a serious injury. He still has to go for a fitness test to determine if he will be available for the game against Leopards,” Mkhathini told KickOff.com.

Prior to the season, AmaZulu were issued a mandate to finish in the top four by new owner Sandile Zungu.

However, it’s been a sluggish start to the season for Usuthu having drawn with Orlando Pirates and lost to TS Galaxy in their opening two matches.

They host Black Leopards, who are bottom of the standings, at Kings Park in Durban on Wednesday with coach Ayanda Dlamini looking for a full three points from the match.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
