Covid-19 strikes – again: Griquas v Bulls Currie Cup clash cancelled

Sports

The Currie Cup match between Griquas and the Bulls, scheduled for Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley on Saturday, has been cancelled in line with Covid-19 protocols.

The decision was taken on Thursday after players and management from the Bulls returned positive tests for Covid-19 this week.

MATCH DECLARED A DRAW, 2 POINTS FOR EACH SIDE

As a result of the cancellation of the match, the encounter will be declared a draw and the teams will each receive two log points.

While Griquas are long out of the running for a playoff spot, the two points for the draw for the Bulls is particularly bad news.

They now hold a seven-point lead over the Sharks, but the men from Durban have two matches in hand and could well take over top spot – and the all important possible home final – as a result.

At this stage … the other two Currie Cup matches scheduled for this weekend between the Pumas and Cheetahs in Nelspruit on Friday (19:00), and the Lions v Sharks in Johannesburg on Saturday (19:00) are unaffected.

Western Province have a bye this weekend.
