There was bad injury news for both Western Province and the Springboks on Monday.

WP fullback Warrick Gelant, who has been playing some of the best rugby of his career since his move to the Cape from the Bulls, has been sidelined for up to nine months.
Baring a medical marvel, the torn ACL injury he suffered, – ironically against the Bulls on Saturday – effectively rules the 25-year-old out of the remainder of the Currie Cup as well as selection for next year’s British & Irish Lions tour.
With the first Test of that British & Irish Lions tour now less than eight months away, Gelant simply won’t have enough time to regain fitness and impress the selectors.

Gelant limped off during WP’s 22-20 defeat against the Bulls in their north-south Currie Cup derby at Newlands over the weekend.
Gelant has nine Tests caps to his name, the most recent of which came against Canada during last year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Warrick.
