Kaizer Motaung caps off 50th anniversary year with top GQ award

Kaizer Chiefs founder, Mr. Kaizer Motaung, was awarded with the prestigious GQ Men of The Year in the highest category – the Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilege Lifetime Achievement Award.

After founding Kaizer Chiefs exactly 50 years ago, Mr. Motaung has successfully established himself as not only a pioneer in the football world but business world as well.

Kaizer Motaung, 76-years of age, began his playing career at Orlando Pirates before going on to represent Atlanta Chiefs and Denver Dynamos in America. He later returned to South Africa and founded Kaizer Chiefs in 1970, as the saying goes: ‘the rest is history.’

Kaizer Motaung wins top award

Kaizer Motaung was named as the GQ Men of The Year on Saturday night in Sandton. He was not there to receive it himself but was represented by his son, former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Kaizer Motaung Jnr.

“I wish to accept this award on behalf of my father and mentor, Mr Kaizer Motaung Snr. I’d like to say thank you to GQ South Africa for recognising the original glamour boy. He is a true leader and innovator. He is a king amongst kings to us,” Motaung Jnr. told the Kaizer Chiefs website.

Kaizer Chiefs have grown to become a household brand not only in South Africa but internationally as well. The Amakhosi have won over 50 club trophies since being formed in 1970 by Kaizer Motaung.
