The Cape Town-born right-back died last week after he was involved in a motor vehicle accident in KwaZulu-Natal, where he was due to join AmaZulu on loan.

He was 33.

According to the KickOff website, Ngcongca is set to be laid to rest in Gugulethu on Thursday.

The Brazilians and Stellenbosch FC wore t-shirts bearing his name during their warm-ups ahead of their DStv Premiership match at Loftus Stadium on Saturday.

Mngqithi said Ngcongca’s attributes as a person made him a player who deserves to be celebrated.

“Anele was wearing jersey No 16 and we wanted to keep that in our minds and celebrate it in the 16th minute of the game, and we did that very well with the support of the match officials and the opposition,” said Mngqithi after their 3-0 victory.

“We also dedicated the next 16 games to Anele, which started with our game on Saturday to try to make sure we live up to his attributes as a player – selflessness, humility and competitiveness.

Ngcongca played 42 matches for Mamelodi Sundowns and had 53 caps for Bafana Bafana.
