Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have cancelled Sunday’s opening One-Day International which was due to take place in Paarl.
TWO HOTEL MEMBERS TESTED POSITIVE IN ENGLAND BIO-BUBBLE
This comes after England players and management underwent an additional round of PCR tests on Saturday evening after two members of the hotel staff tested positive for Covid-19.
England’s tour of SA has been blighted by positive Covid-19 tests – mainly from the Proteas’ camp – despite strict bio-bubble conditions.
Two unnamed Proteas players – reported however to be David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo – failed Covid-19 tests prior to the T20 series (which England won comprehensively 3-0).
A third yet to be named Protas player then tested positive prior to Friday’s original ODI at Newlands, resulting in that match being postponed to Sunday.
The latest news then say the match cancelled altogether, leaving just two matches remaining – both at Newlands on Monday and Wednesday.
England have a charter flight scheduled for Thursday, December 10, leaving the remainder of the tour in serious doubt.
