SA Rugby scrambles to change Currie Cup times due to Level 3 lockdown

SA Rugby has confirmed a required change to the Currie Cup fixture list for this coming weekend.

Saturday’s match between the Cheetahs and Western Province in Bloemfontein at the Toyota Stadium will now start at 16:30 – instead of the initial time of 19:00 – in line with the adjusted Level 3 lockdown regulations announced on Monday night.

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture confirmed on Tuesday that professional sport may continue, although all matches have to be concluded by 20:00 in adherence with the nationwide curfew of 21:00.

TWO CURRIE CUP MATCHES WILL NOW BE PLAYED AT 16:30

According to SA Rugby, two matches on Saturday will now start at 16:30 and both will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

The clash between the Cheetahs and WP will be on the SuperSport Grandstand and Rugby channels (201 and 211), while the match between the Sharks and Griquas in Durban will play out on SuperSport’s Action channel (210).

Meanwhile, the match between the Pumas and Lions in Nelspruit will continue as scheduled at 14:00 and will be broadcast live on the SuperSport Grandstand and Rugby channels.

SA RUGBY MADE NO MENTION OF OTHER MATCHES

SA Rugby made no mention in their press release of a change in kick-off time for the Wednesday, January 6 clash between the Bulls and Lions at Loftus Versfeld nor WP’s home match against the Sharks match scheduled for Saturday, January 9.

Both those fixtures are currently scheduled to kick off at 19:00 and will require changing.
