It could be another FOUR MONTHS until Mamelodi Sundowns see Mauricio Affonso back in action.

The 28-year-old Uruguayan striker has suffered a series of crippling injuries – much to the frustration of co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi

Sundowns signed Affonso 18 months ago, but after a positive initial impact, he has managed just 13 appearances, during which he has scored six goals.

“Affonso is still out, we will be not really sure when he is coming back because he always breaks down when we are hoping that he is coming back,” Mngqithi said after Sundowns’ DStv Premiership win over Orlando Pirates last weekend.

“We are beginning to live with the fact that maybe he must recover fully and be ready to help us when he is ready.

“We believe that maybe in the next two to three months, if not four months, but it’s a tough one for us.”

Mauricio Affonso last played for Sundowns in their CAF Champions League win over Wydad Casablanca in February 2020.

Meanwhile, Sundowns will be in action on Tuesday when they host Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy in the second leg of their CAF Champions League tie.

The match at Loftus Versfeld will kick off at 16:00.

Sundowns hold a handy 2-0 advantage from the first leg.
