Leeds vs Southampton
prediction: 1-1 draw
Southampton stopped the rot with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at the weekend and they can avoid defeat again when they face a Leeds side that has only won three of their last nine matches.
A clean sheet for either side is unlikely though, with Leeds keeping just one in their last nine and Southampton seeing both teams score in each of their last three league games. A win for the Saints is unlikely, so a score draw is our prediction.
Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea
prediction: 1-1 draw
A low scoring affair is expected in Budapest, with Atletico Madrid’s last four Champions League games featuring a total of six goals and Chelsea seeing fewer than three goals in six of their seven games under Thomas Tuchel.
Atleti have drawn three of their last four Champions League matches and two of those ended 1-1, while Chelsea played out a 1-1 stalemate at Southampton on Saturday.
Lazio vs Bayern Munich
Prediction: 2-1 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich has won 16 of their last 17 Champions League ties and is justified favourites as they prepare to visit the Stadio Olimpico.
Their defence has come under scrutiny this season though, and they’re facing a Lazio side that has scored in 27 consecutive games in all competitions. The Italians haven’t failed to score at home since July 2020, while the Bavarian visitors have scored exactly twice in two of their last five Champions League matches.
Birmingham vs Norwich
Prediction: 2-0 Norwich
Championship leaders Norwich have won their last three matches and should make it four in a row when they visit a Birmingham side winless in 11 home league games.
The Canaries have won to nil in their last two games and Birmingham have failed to score in four of their last five at St Andrew’s, so a repeat of Norwich’s last away win at Coventry looks a likely outcome.
Middlesbrough vs Bristol City
Prediction: 2-0 Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough looks for a third straight victory after their 2-0 win at Reading, and we think an identical scoreline could be in order against a Bristol City side that has lost their last six Championship games.
The visitors have failed to score in their last four games and have lost seven on the trot away from home. Two of their last four league games have ended in 2-0 defeats.
Rotherham vs Nottingham Forest
Prediction: 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest has won three of their last five in the Championship and can get another victory against a Rotherham side that have lost three on the bounce.
Rotherham have scored in each of their last six at home so a clean sheet is unlikely and with two of these games ending in 2-1 defeat that looks the most likely outcome.
