Baroka shift focus to must-win Kaizer Chiefs clash

Baroka head coach Dylan Kerr says his side have it all to play for on the final round of PSL fixtures after the thrashing suffered at the hands of Supersport United.

The Limpopo-based outfit are 15th in the standings and need to win against the title-chasing Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in order to guarantee themselves a spot in the top flight next season.

Baroka eye Kaizer Chiefs as pressure mounts

A win on Wednesday would have eased the pressure going on the league finale, but it wasn’t to be as they failed to add to their shock victory from over the weekend against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to Kerr, defending failed his charges, who conceded four goals after netting the opener inside the first ten minutes, which remained their only goal in the encounter.

“It is the big one. It is all to play for now,” Kerr said after Wednesday night’s game.

“We managed to keep them at bay, but when they got the equaliser … you know, it’s a poor [piece of defending].

“We worked on it, we went through video analysis of their set-pieces with a five tooth comb, and they forgot their jobs today.”

Intense relegation battle

The result saw them drop to 15th place in the standings, where they face playing in the promotion/relegation playoffs should they fail to deliver the goods against Chiefs.

Also fighting to avoid slugging it out with promotion hopefuls is provincial rivals Black Leopards, who stunned Bidvest Wits with a 1-0 win in their fixture on Wednesday.

Lidoda Duvha face the other title-chasing team, Mamelodi Sundowns in their final fixture, while another Limpopo team in Polokwane City is almost certain of relegation.

Chiefs and Sundowns are tied at 59 points at the top of the league standings, with the Soweto giants three to the good in terms of goal-difference.

All of Saturday’s PSL fixtures kick off at 15:30 (SAST).
