Celebrated South African coach Pitso Mosimane was officially unveiled by Egyptian giants Al Ahly as their new mentor on Thursday, just a day after his shock exit from Mamelodi Sundowns was confirmed.
Mosimane’s departure from the Tshwane giants came just weeks after guiding them to a domestic treble, in the process completing a hattrick of league victories to bring his tally to five since taking over the helm in 2012.
The 2016 Caf Champions League winner has now signed a two-year deal with Africa’s “club of the century”, where he is entrusted with guiding them to title number nine.
The ex-Bafana coach succeeds Swiss mentor Rene Weiler, whose year-long stint in Cairo yielded the Egyptian Premier League title, a record 42nd for the club.

Mosimane leaves South Africa as the country’s most decorated coach, with five league titles, the most by any mentor in the top flight.
The two other cup titles secured in the recently-concluded season brought his overall tally to 11, a number which includes the biggest prize in African club competition.
Following Sundowns’ continental triumph in 2016, Mosimane was named Africa’s coach of the year, becoming the first and so far the only South African ever to clinch the accolade.
