Bloemfontein Celtic and Polokwane City played to a goalless draw in their early PSL fixture at Tuks Stadium on Sunday.
Phunya Sele Sele came into the fixture looking to creep up to the coveted top eight, having found themselves in eighth place after dropping points in midweek. Their opponents, on the other end, were in deeper trouble after slipping to the bottom of the table.
Bloemfontein Celtic 0-0 Polokwane City: PSL match report
The first half was fast-paced, but lacking in terms of goalmouth action, and the two sides went into the break still yet to find the vital breakthrough.
Andile Fikizolo could have squeezed one in from a tight angle in the 52nd minute after running behind the City defence, but George Chigova kept out his effort.
On the hour-mark, Charlton Mashumpa got on the end of a pin-point cross from Sibusiso Hlubi, but directed his header wide of the target.
Things could have ended in disaster for Celtic, who brought on Ryan de Jongh at injury time.
The late sub almost turned one into his own net when he misdirected his header while defending a cross, only missing by a few inches.
That would be the last attack of the game, with both sides settling for a share of the spoils.
The point earned in the fixture propelled Celtic to eighth place in the PSL log, while City remain rooted at the bottom of the table, now level on points with rivals Baroka with just two matches left to play.
