They have been one of the busier sides on the transfer market, announcing the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Musa Nyatama on Sunday, as well as Moeketsi Makhaya who joined from first division outfit JDR Stars on the same day.
Monday was the turn of journeyman Gamaldien to sign on the dotted line. The 31-year-old drew to a close a rather short spell at the Chilli Boys, whom he joined at the start of the recently-concluded season, spending half the campaign away on loan at Steenberg United.
“Swallows FC has secured the signature of striker and free-kick specialist Ruzaigh Gamildien, welcome to the nest,” Swallows revealed on their official Twitter account.
The return of the Birds
Swallows were relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2014/15 season, which triggered a spectacular nosedive which saw them drop from the second tier immediately after that.
The iconic club – originally founded in 1947 – was back in the first division in 2019, albeit via the boardroom, when businessman David Mogashoa bought the Maccabi FC franchise, almost immediately renaming the club to Swallows FC.
They were promoted outright following their first season back in the first division, bypassing the tricky promotion playoffs after finishing first in the league.
The club boasts some iconic past players such as club legends, Mike “Sporo” Mangena and Thomas “Who’s Fooling Who” Hlongwane.
They have managed to hold on to some experienced heads who helped them gain promotion, with the likes of former Bafana duo Vuyo Mere and Lebohang Mokoena, as well as
