JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule on Tuesday evening said he was neither worried nor surprised by reports that a warrant of arrest is headed his way.

Magashule told Eyewitness News he “heard of” a warrant against him being signed by a Bloemfontein court relating to millions of rand spent on the failed Estina dairy farm project that left black farmers destitute.

Magashule revealed that while he was aware of talk of a warrant, he was yet to be formally served.

“I’m not worried, I’m not surprised. I’ve been observing what is happening in the country, that’s why for now I don’t want to cast any aspersions on the law enforcement agencies,” Magashule said.

The ANC secretary-general’s name has been on the tip of many tongues as the Hawks arrested numerous suspects on tender fraud and corruption that happened during his tenure as premier of the Free State.

He said threats of his pending arrest were not new.

“Over time there has been this thing of Hollywood type of style [arrests]. So, we will wait and see but we are ready for anything,” Magashule said.

Meanwhile, the Hawks denied knowledge of a warrant in the works for Magashule.

“The Hawks would like to categorically distance itself from the news reports. We are not aware of any warrant of arrest that has been issued against Mr Ace Magashule,” said Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

Magashule has been implicated in various matters before the state capture commission of inquiry, where he is yet to appear and give his side of the story.
