Kaizer Chiefs: Gavin Hunt plotting major Khama Billiat revival

Sports

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt has commented on stuttering Zimbabwean star Khama Billiat and his plans on how to revive his talisman.

It’s no secret that Khama Billiat has been a shadow of his former self since joining Kaizer Chiefs in 2018. Billiat joined the Amakhosi in a blockbuster move from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns however the diminutive attacker is yet to live up to the billing at Naturena.

Billiat’s downward spiral at Kaizer Chiefs may very well be testament to the lack of attractive football being played at the club over recent seasons. Ernst Middendorp made effective use of his side’s aerial strength throughout last season leaving little need for the magical touches of Billiat.

Billiat is a double-figures scorer – Hunt

Newly appointed head coach Gavin Hunt believes it’s pivotal to get Billiat playing according to his strengths should the Zimbabwean attacker make a significant contribution at Naturena. Hunt believes the 10-goal mark should be the minimum target for Billiat to achieve under him this season.

“Yes Billiat is older but he should be more experienced now. He’s a bit wiser. I think the most important thing we have got to do is get him playing to his strengths,” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt said.

“I don’t want to know what’s gone on here before. It’s got nothing to do with me. I just want to see what’s in front of me and hopefully we can get him performing well. He’s certainly a double-figures goal scorer in the league and that’s got to be the first aim.”

Khama Billiat got off to a strong start to the new season for Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend after earning two assists in their 2-1 MTN8 victory over Maritzburg United.

Kaizer Chiefs next turn their attention to Mamelodi Sundowns and will be hopeful for Khama Billiat to put in a strong performance against his former employers.
