Andros Townsend insists his former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane will break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record before he retires.

The ex-Newcastle and England striker is the division’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals.

Kane netted his 150th Premier League strike as Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat West Brom on Sunday, which temporarily fired Spurs top of the division.

And Townsend, who played alongside Kane for six-and-a-half years at Spurs, believes the 27-year-old has his eye on Shearer’s record ‘every single day’.

Speaking with talkSPORT, Townsend noted that for him, Kane is the best striker in world football, and is very under-appreciated.

Townsend noted that people love to speak about the likes of Lewandowski and Benzema, but if these guys come to the Premier League, they wouldn’t be hitting the numbers Harry Kane has been hitting on a consistent basis.

Speaking about Kane chances of beating Shearer’s record, Townsend stated that on average Kane is scoring 26 goals a season, which is incredible and knowing the England International, he thinks about the target every single day.

Every single time Kane goes into training, he’s thinking about breaking that all-time goalscoring record because that’s what he wants to do.

Townsend added that Kane is very determined, very focused, and if he sets his mind to something, eventually he will get it.

Kane has scored an impressive 201 goals in 301 games in all competitions for Tottenham since making his debut in 2011.

Hopefully the England international will be able to achiever this feat which we hope would not be affected with the presence of Gareth Bale now in the team.

There are also reports that the Hotspur could bring back Christian Eriksen on loan in January.
