Left-arm seamer Beuran Hendricks provided the main fireworks on day one of the second round of the CSA 4-Day series while elsewhere, Raynard van Tonder lit up Mangaung Oval where the Knights finished the day in a commanding position.

As was the case in the previous round of the competition, it was the host teams who dominated the first day’s proceeding.

CSA 4-Day series: Round 2, Day 1 wrap

Here is a wrap of what went down on the opening day of match day two of the 4-Day Series.

Lions vs Cobras at The Wanderers

Cobras: 115 all out

Lions: 143-3

A seven-wicket haul from Hendricks placed the Cobras on the back foot inside a session and a half, as they were skittled out for just 115.

Both sides came into the clash looking to get off the mark after conceding defeat in the opening round.

That task proved harder for the men from the Cape, who struggled to get going on a green top, with just three batsmen reaching double-figures. One of those was wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne, who reached 51 before being castled by Hendricks.

The 30-year-old finished with figures of 7 for 29 while, in their reply, the Lions cruised past the Cobras’ innings total with just three wickets down before getting to stumps 28 runs to the good.

Warriors vs Titans at St George’s Park

Warriors: 137-4

Only 45 overs were possible in a rain-affected first day’s play between the Warriors and the Titans in Port Elizabeth.

The hosts finished the day on 137 for the loss of four, with Gihan Cloete unbeaten on 57 and set to resume with Sinethemba Qeshile, who was on 20 at stumps.

For the Titans, seam bowler Lizaad Williams was the pick of the bowlers with figures of two for 50, while Okuhle Cele and Grant Thomson claimed a wicket apiece.

Knights vs Dolphins at Mangaung Oval

Knights: 323-7

Van Tonder was the star of the show in another aggressive display from the Knights who were on 323 for seven by the time play was called on the first day.

The 22-year-old brought up his fourth First-Class century before finishing unbeaten on 119.
