The opening T20I between the Proteas and England at Newlands on Friday will go ahead after Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the hosts had returned negative results in their final round of Covid-19 tests.
FIRST BALL WILL BE DELIVERED AT 18:00
There had been fears the match could be cancelled if a player – or players – from either side tested positive in the tests conducted on Thursday.
The Proteas had two players in their 24-man squad test positive last week. Those unnamed players remain in quarantine and won’t feature at Newlands later on Friday.
The first delivery in the three-match T20 series will be bowled at 18:00.
Meanwhile, there was some bad news out of the Proteas camp in that all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius has been ruled out of the England tour due to a hamstring injury.
Pretorius’ injury occurred during a team practice session at Newlands and is expected to take three to four weeks to heal. No replacement will be summoned.
