Whitehead returns to lead Griquas against visiting Sharks

Sports

Griquas have returned George Whitehead to their starting XV as one of a raft of changes made to their lineup to face the Sharks in Kimberley on Friday.

The round six fixture between Griquas and the Sharks will be televised live on the SuperSport Grandstand and Rugby channels and kicks-off at 19:00.

George Whitehead back at flyhalf

Whitehead’s halfback partner Zak Burger led in his place against the Stormers last week and is one of just three players to start in the same position. Also retaining their jerseys from last week are wing Ederies Arendse, and centre Johnathan Francke.

There is a new look lock pairing on show for the Griquas, with Adré Smith starting at number five next to last weekend’s replacement lock Cameron Lindsay, who swaps places with Mzwanele Zito at four.

Number eight Johan Momsen returns to the back of the scrum in a rotational swap with Carl Els, who joins Zito on the bench.

Backline shifts for Griquas

Griquas backline also has a different look with several changes made in a bid to freshen up the attack against a dangerous Sharks team.

Former Kings fullback Masixole Banda gets an opportunity in place of regular number 15 James Verity-Amm.

Eduan Keyter, meanwhile, switches from outside centre to wing where the experienced Bjorn Basson did duty against the Stormers, while Harlon Klaasen is now entrusted with duties in midfield at outside centre.

Griquas are rock bottom of the Super Rugby Unlocked standings having lost all four of their matches to date and conceded 157 points in the process.

They face a team still in the hunt for the title and targeting a bonus-point win to stay in touch with the Bulls.
