McCarthy last week took over the coaching duties at KwaZulu-Natal club AmaZulu having previously been employed at the Cape Town side.

The Cape Town City job was McCarthy’s first permanent coaching role, but he was shown the door by the Citizens in November 2019 following a string of poor results.

However, McCarthy made an immediate impact at Usuthu, overseeing their 3-1 win last weekend against Chippa United.

I’M GLAD BENNI IS BACK – JOHN COMITIS

“That’s a great thing for South African football, I’m glad he’s back in the boxing ring,” Comitis told KickOff.com.

“He’s a great character for the game, he’s passionate for football. He’s given so much to the game, you know he has to be back, he has to be involved. You can’t have people like that not involved in the game.”

“I don’t have advice, my only thing is that he was a great coach for us and I wish him all the best.

“All I can say is he was a great coach for us and I’m very happy he’s back.”

BENNI MCCARTHY HAS TARGETED A TOP 4 POSITION

AmaZulu will take a break over the Christmas long weekend and reassemble on Monday, December 28 to prepare for their fixtures in early 2021.

AmaZulu finished 2020 in eighth place in the standings with nine points, still some distance off the top 4 positions McCarthy spoke about as his goal at his unveiling.

Their first match of the new year is against Bloemfontein Celtic on Sunday, January 10. Three days later they will host a struggling Kaizer Chiefs side.
