Cape Town City head coach Jan Olde Riekerink has opened up regarding his side’s plans ahead of this afternoon’s mouthwatering clash against Orlando Pirates.
Cape Town City host Orlando Pirates at the Danie Craven Stadium this afternoon and the City mentor, Jan Olde Riekerink claims his side are going to take the game to their high-flying opponents.
Orlando Pirates have significantly strengthened their side during the off-season with the likes of Richard Ofori, Thulani Hlatshwayo, Wayde Jooste and Deon Hotto joining their ranks.
The Buccaneers are also on the brink of ending their lengthy title drought next weekend when they face Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 final and will be heading into this afternoon’s fixture as favourites for the victory.
This however will not deter Jan Olde Riekerink’s Cape Town City side who promised to fight fire with fire this afternoon.
Riekerink hopeful to end the match with 11 men
Jan Olde Riekerink’s previous two clashes against Orlando Pirates have ended in a loss and a victory however, on both occasions, Cape Town City were reduced to 10-men.
“So, now we have Orlando Pirates, first of all I hope we will finish this game with 11 against 11 because I only played them with 10, one win and one loss. With the loss we were the better team and in the first one we got our win from our mentality. The second one of course we lost but I think we played the first half of the match better.” Riekerink said as quoted by SoccerLaduma.
Cape Town City won’t sit back
“It will be the game for us that will be important, do we play with White or do we play with Black in the chess way? Do we have the initiative, or we say we have to wait for Pirates? But my players will not want to play with Black, so we will take the initiative in this game. We will play to our identity, we want to win this game,” Riekerink added.
Action at the Danie Craven Stadium between Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates gets underway at 15:30. This website will be providing live updates from the match.
