RIP | Father of Proteas great Hashim Amla dies

The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union has confirmed the sad passing of the father of Proteas great, Hashim Amla.

CONVEYED ITS CONDOLENCES TO THE AMLA FAMILY

Dolphins Cricket confirmed on Thursday via social media the death of Dr Mohamed Amla.

The union conveyed its sincere and heartfelt condolences to Amla and his brother Ahmed, as well as their family and friends.

Hashim Amla played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is for South Africa before hanging up his pads in mid-2019.

Amla, now 37, was spotted in the commentary box during the Boxing Day Test between the Proteas and Sri Lanka at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

SA’S SECOND-HIGHEST TEST RUN SCORER

He is the Proteas’ second-highest Test run scorer of all time and boasted an average of 46.64. Amla scored 28 Test centuries and holds the record for the highest ever individual Test score for South Africa of 311 not out.

While Hashim Amla’s older brother Ahmed didn’t represent his country at international level, he was a stalwart for Natal and the Dolphins over the past decade.
