A small, but high quality entry of nine horses has been received for the R1 million Grade 1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate to be run over 1 600m at Kenilworth on Saturday, January 9.

Supplementary entries will close at 11:00 on Thursday, December 31 while declarations close at 11:00 on Monday, January 4.

Cape trainer Justin Snaith arguably holds the strongest hand with three of the nine runners, including the early favourite Belgarion.

Snaith’s other two horse are 2019 winner Do It Again and Dark Jet.

2021 RACE WILL BE THE 160TH QUEEN’S PLATE

The Eric Sands-trained Rainbow Bridge is second favourite, followed by Sands’ second runner, Golden Ducat.

Next year’s L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate – assuming it goes ahead in light of the recent Covid-19 Level 3 lockdown – will be the 160th running of the prestigious event.

The race will not be open to spectators other than owners and trainers.

The 2020 winner, Vardy, will not be racing.
