It’s official! After months of speculation and hopes on Percy Tau receiving a work permit in England, Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed an early return to the club for the South African superstar.
Percy Tau joined English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 however three successive loan spells away from the club due to work permit issues left many believing the former Mamelodi Sundowns ace would not play in arguably Europe’s elite league.
The wait is officially over with Brighton securing the eagerly anticipated work permit for Percy Tau in an emergency return move to save the club from relegation.
Percy Tau’s dream move to Brighton is official!
“Brighton & Hove Albion have today recalled striker Percy Tau from his loan spell with Belgian club Anderlecht.” an official club statement read.
“After a season with Brussels-based club Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, Tau moved to Bruges last season and helped them win the league title and played in the Champions League.
“Tau linked up with Anderlecht, who are managed by former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, last August and has scored four goals in 15 games this season.
“Albion have received a Governing Body Endorsement, the new points-based system for non-English players which came into force last week when the transition period following the UK’s exit from the European Union ended, from the FA for Percy Tau.”
Potter raring for Tau to hit the ground running
“We’re pleased to be able to welcome Tau Percy to the club and begin working with him. I know he’s a player whose progress many of our fans have followed in recent seasons.” Brighton boss Graham Potter said.
“We too have closely monitored his performances in Belgium in the last three years. He’s been playing at a really good level, particularly with Bruges and Anderlecht where he has been involved in the Champions League, and his next step is to show he is ready to make the transition into the Premier League.
“Percy Tau brings some different attributes and qualities to the group and he wants to take the next step in his career. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Percy Tau could make his debut for Brighton and Hove Albion in just under a weeks time when the Seagulls face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Wednesday night.
Brighton sit in 17th position on the English Premier League log standings just three points out of the relegation zone and will be banking on Percy Tau’s magic to save them from the dreaded drop.
