Controversial former Australian fullback-cum-wing Israel Folau could be set for a sensational return to rugby union following his sacking by Rugby Australia (RA) in 2019.

The cross-code star has been playing rugby league for the Catalans Dragons in the European Super League after he was booted from rugby union following a series of controversial social media posts and subsequent legal battle with RA.

FOLAU REACHED A SETTLEMENT WITH RUGBY AUSTRALIA

The 31-year-old reached an undisclosed settlement with RA following a drawn-out and very public investigation over homophobic social media posts.

According to France’s Midi Olympique, at least three Top 14 clubs – Bayonne, Montpellier and Toulon – are interested in Israel Folau’s signature ahead of the 2021/22 season.

It is believed Bayonne have already made contact with both the player and his agent.

Israel Folau has played 73 Tests for the Wallabies, scoring 37 tries.

He is also the all-time leading try scorer in Super Rugby history with 60 tries.
