Controversial former Australian fullback-cum-wing Israel Folau could be set for a sensational return to rugby union following his sacking by Rugby Australia (RA) in 2019.
The cross-code star has been playing rugby league for the Catalans Dragons in the European Super League after he was booted from rugby union following a series of controversial social media posts and subsequent legal battle with RA.
FOLAU REACHED A SETTLEMENT WITH RUGBY AUSTRALIA
The 31-year-old reached an undisclosed settlement with RA following a drawn-out and very public investigation over homophobic social media posts.
According to France’s Midi Olympique, at least three Top 14 clubs – Bayonne, Montpellier and Toulon – are interested in Israel Folau’s signature ahead of the 2021/22 season.
It is believed Bayonne have already made contact with both the player and his agent.
ISRAEL FOLAU IS THE LEADING SUPER RUGBY TRY SCORER
Israel Folau has played 73 Tests for the Wallabies, scoring 37 tries.
He is also the all-time leading try scorer in Super Rugby history with 60 tries.
