Why Vic Falls Should Be Your Perfect Valentine’s Day Destination

Lifestyle

One of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders, Vic falls South Africa is also known as the ”Smoke that Thunders” and this is owing to the clouds of mist that rise up when it’s in flood. Your perfect holiday destination in South Africa cannot be another place than the Vic falls in south Africa.

The largest sheet of falling water in the world, Victoria Falls appears to be a natural border between Zambia and Zimbabwe as it lies between the great Zambezi River.

The ideal time to engage in water-based activities such as white-water rafting or swimming in Devil’s Pool is during summer when the river is at its lowest and the current isn’t as strong as it is when the river is in full flood from February to July.

There is also the more natural Zambian side where you get to see the water from inside the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Don’t forget to take your passport along with you when crossing the border – a 20-minute walk over Victoria Falls Bridge.

During the summer holidays, there is a lot of sightseeing to do at Victoria Falls. Don’t miss out on these as you explore the perfect summer holiday destination.

The Knife Edge Bridge

To arrive at the Knife Edge Bridge at the edge of the cliff, pass through the paved paths from which you can look 100m down into the canyon. You’ll enjoy this beauty more during the high water season – it’d be best to take your raincoat along.

Zambezi River Sunset Boat Cruise

On the calmer upper reaches of the Zambezi river, you can take a cruise to enjoy the breathtaking sunset while sipping on sundowners. There is incredible game viewing here – from birds, monkeys to elephants, giraffes and hippos.

Helicopter flight

Enjoy the perfect view of the Batoka Gorge and the full breadth of the falls from the cockpit of a helicopter. To view the air animals, you can also take flights further upstream. A microlight flight can also be your preferred option if you want a slower trip with the wind in your hair.

Victoria Falls bridge slide

Catch sight of picturesque vistas as you ride through the 300m zip line that takes you gently across the rapids from the Zambian to the Zimbabwean side of the bridge. Children can come on board too, but those between 4 and 14 must ride along with an adult.

Devil’s Pool

This natural rock pool is based at the edge of the falls. Simply take a boat to Livingstone Island. Then walk and swim to the pool (you’ll meet a safety rope there) to gaze 103m straight down over the falls amidst the rushing waters. With the assistance of guides, you are guaranteed to enjoy this experience during the summer holidays.

There is more to do at Victoria Falls, nicknamed the Adventure Capital of Africa. Your quest for more adventure will be fulfilled here. Here are a few things for those seeking more adventure.

Bungee jump or bridge swing off Victoria Falls bridge

If it’s a bungee jump, you’re positioned upside down. Then if it’s a bridge swing, you’re right way up. You can get a partner to swing the bridge along with you. Either activity gives you a high dose of excitement.

White water rafting

The white-water rafting experience here is incomparable. It’s an excellent mix of challenging class 4 and 5 rapids, which demand your complete attention, and calm stretches for your relaxation and admiration of the moving landscape. Come in December when the water level is totally perfect.
