Mamelodi Sundowns earned a vital three points in the PSL on Wednesday night after seeing off Polokwane City at Loftus Versfeld.

Goals by Anele Ngcongca, Themba Zwane and Keletso Makgalwa earned Mamelodi Sundowns a comfortable 3-0 victory over a helpless Polokwane City side.

Mamelodi Sundowns had just picked up nine out of a possible 21 points since the PSL’s bio-bubble restart prior to tonight while Polokwane City have picked up just two out of a possible 15 points after their loss tonight.

Themba Zwane has been Mamelodi Sundowns’ top goal scorer this season with the 31-year-old bagging 11 goals after his wonder goal tonight against Polokwane City, Mshishi however remains four goals off the league’s top goal scorers Gabadinho Mhango and Peter Shalulile and is unlikely to catch them with just one game to go.

Polokwane City 0-3 Mamelodi Sundowns: PSL match report

Sundowns endured a rather sluggish start to the game. Polokwane City did most of the attacking in the early stages however they lacked precision in their final pass and finishing.

Mamelodi Sundowns came close in the 23rd minute when defender Motjeka Madisha’s powerful a header was cleared off the line by Polokwane City’s Hlongwane.

Anele Ngcongca wasn’t to be denied in the 38th minute when the Mamelodi Sundowns defender pounced first on a loose ball in the Polokwane City six yard box to earn his first PSL goal for the club.

It took a moment of brilliance by Themba Zwane to get the second goal of the night for Mamelodi Sundowns on the stroke of halftime, Zwane danced past two defenders before neatly finishing into the bottom corner of George Chigova’s goal.

Rise and Shine rang the changes in the second half however it wasn’t to be for the PSL strugglers. Mamelodi Sundowns sealed their victory in the dying minutes of the game courtesy of a well composed Keletso Makgalwa strike.

Sundowns remain in second place in the PSL after Kaizer Chiefs earned a 1-0 victory of their own against Chippa United however the difference in goal difference between the two is now cut down to just three goals.

Polokwane City on the other hand remain at the foot of the PSL table with one game to go. At best, the Limpopo side can finish in 15th place which is the promotional playoff position.
