Cricket South Africa (CSA) acting president has tendered in his resignation, just weeks after assuming the position.

The organisation’s former deputy president took the hot seat in August, replacing Chris Nenzani, who had just stepped down.

It had been reported earlier in the week that the Member’s Council intended to dissolve the CSA board in the wake of a much-documented crisis that has engulfed the sports body over the past year.

Williams, who was implicated in wrongdoing according to the Fundudzi forensic audit report, was one of six board members whose departure from the organisation has been confirmed.

His resignation comes after the board met to discuss the best way forward for the organisation.

According to CSA, his resignation was tendered in with immediaite effect.

“Mr Williams said that he is deeply passionate about cricket and because of his love for the game, he has resigned as this is the best way he can currently serve cricket,” CSA said.

Others to step down from their positions in the CSA board, are Angelo Carolissen, Tebogo Siko and Donovan May. They all retain their positions in the Member’s Council.

“CSA understands and appreciates the Board members’ reasoning behind their resignations, based on their love for cricket and their respect of CSA,” the organisation said.

Also stepping down is independent director and board member Dheven Dharmalingam, who too reliquished his position in the CSA board.

“I commit to working with the Board, Members’ Council & management, should they have a need. Notwithstanding the difficult times, it was a pleasure working with everyone. I wish & hope that CSA finds peace in the coming months & cricket takes centre stage,” he said.
