Pitso Mosimane selects Cavin Johnson as his assistant coach at Al Ahly

Cavin Johnson has been named as Pitso Mosimane’s assistant coach at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The former Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu and Black Leopards manager is set to join fellow South Africans Musi Matlaba and Kabelo Rangoaga on Pitso Mosimane’s technical bench in Egypt.

Johnson has been unemployed after being axed by PSL top flight side Black Leopards in January 2020 after taking charge of just five games at club in which he failed to register a victory.

Pitso Mosimane sent shockwaves through the entire continent after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns for Al Ahly last week and has since confirmed who’ll be assisting him on his quest to conquer the land of the pharaohs.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that coach Cavin Johnson has agreed to join me as an assistant coach at Al Ahly.” Pitso Mosimane revealed on Twitter.

“This completes the technical team I bring with me to the Red Devils after fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and performance analyst Musi Matlaba. Coach Cavin is an accomplished and experienced mentor who has played an integral part in the development of football in South Africa and beyond.

“With qualifications that include Caf Licence, Safa Pro Licence, Brazilian football academy, FA England courses and a diploma in Sports Management, he has what it takes to help us deliver on our mandate in this top league and beyond.”

Johnson thanks Al Ahly for coaching gig

The 61-year-old South African mentor has opened up regarding his appointment as assistant coach at ‘Africa’s club of the century’ while thanking the leadership of Al Ahly and Pitso Mosimane for allowing it to happen.

“I want to thank the leadership of Al Ahly for allowing the opportunity to build the leadership that I believe can help us continue the winning culture of the club.” Johnson said.

“I want to thank coach Pitso for giving this opportunity to work with this club of the century.”

Johnson was due to depart for Egypt today however a delay in flying time now means he’s set to arrive in Cairo tomorrow before officially being unveiled as Pitso’s Mosimane’s assistant coach.
