Dlamini steps down as AmaZulu coach – Who’ll replace him?

AmaZulu have confirmed that head coach Ayanda Dlamini has ‘voluntarily’ stepped down from his position at the club.

Dlamini took over the reigns at AmaZulu following the departure of Jozef Vukusic in March 2020. Dlamini successfully avoided relegation before being given a permanent contract at the club in September.

Dlamini coached AmaZulu for a total of 13 games in which he won three games, lost three and the remaining seven ended in a draw.

Dlamini steps down at AmaZulu

AmaZulu released a statement confirming the resignation of head coach Ayanda Dlamini on Monday afternoon. The 36-year-old will return to the club’s youth structures.

“AmaZulu Football Club would like to officially announce that coach Ayanda Dlamini has voluntary stepped down from his head coaching duties with immediate effect and will be re-assigned to the role of coach within the club’s development ranks.” the statement read.

“Assistant coach Allan Freese will step in as interim head coach of Usuthu while the club’s management evaluate a way forward.

Coach Ayanda Dlamini stepped into the head coaching role back in February 2020 and did a sterling job in ensuring the survival of AmaZulu FC in the topflight of South African football.”

“Coach Ayanda has done a phenomenal job since assuming the head coaching role. The passion and zeal the players have demonstrated under his tenure as head coach demonstrates that he is one of the prospects for the future.”said AmaZulu FC President, Sandile Zungu.

“We will continue to trust him with the advancement of our development structures because he is fully committed to Vision 2032. His role is very integral in ensuring that AmaZulu have a solid base of young players coming through the ranks.”

AmaZulu are rumoured to be looking at Benni McCarthy and Eric Tinkler as Dlamini’s long-term replacement while the likes of Owen Da Gama, Clinton Larsen, Wedson Nyirenda, Norman Mapeza and Gordon Igesund remain as suitable candidates.
