England’s tour of SA has been beset with problems since the return of Covid-19 positive tests in the Proteas camp prior to both the T20 and ODI series.
Two unnamed Proteas players tested positive before the first ball was bowled in the T20 series.
TWO HOTEL STAFF MEMBERS TESTED POSITIVE
Then, following England’s comprehensive 3-0 victory in that series, a third Proteas player failed a Covid-19 test before the opening ODI at Newlands last Friday.
That match was pushed back to Sunday, but was then cancelled after two hotel staff members in the England bio-bubble tested positive.
The second ODI, which was scheduled for Newlands on Monday, was also cancelled.
That left a mad scramble to rearrange the fixtures before England’s charter flight back home on Thursday.
On Monday it was decided – wisely for many – to call off the series to avoid further disappointment.
