Tahir’s withdrawal was confirmed on Monday by his side, the Melbourne Renegades.

The Renegades, the 2018/19 champions, have got off to a slow start in this year’s Covid-19-delayed tournament and after four matches they are down in seventh place, well outside the playoff spots.

Tahir retired from international cricket last year and currently plies his trade in various T20 tournaments around the world, including the Indian Premier Leagues (IPL), Caribbean Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

Tahir, now 41, played 20 Tests, 107 ODIs and 38 T20Is for the Proteas.
